The Way of the Kingdom (Part 9) - Pigs and Pearls

In Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus begins by telling a large crowd, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." It's a straightforward command and a valuable reminder that we should all be more concerned with addressing our own sins than with judging other people for theirs.

That's where the simple-to-understand nature of the message ends, however, as Jesus soon follows that up with, "Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls to pigs." It's a statement which doesn't seem to make much sense on the surface, but when we dig a bit deeper, we realize that this message is just as valuable as the command to not judge. It turns out that Jesus' command about pearls is actually about "pearls of wisdom," and the pigs Jesus mentions are people who don't recognize the value of those pearls... which sometimes includes all of us. Listen this week as Pastor Joe fills in the gaps, challenging us not to be "piggy with pearls,” "pearly with pigs" and to remember that the secret to true worth lies in the Gospel.
